**Cornerstone content** is the term SEOs use for the most important pages or articles of a site on a core topic. It comes from SEO practice and is not Google terminology (assessment).

## How does cornerstone content work?

Yoast describes cornerstones as long, informative articles for competitive search terms. They receive more internal links than the supporting posts, and those posts link back to the cornerstone. Yoast advises against using the homepage for this.

Google's documentation supplies the technical basis. Every page you care about should be linked from at least one other page, and descriptive anchor text helps people and Google understand the target. Whether a cornerstone ranks better because of this is practitioner experience and not confirmed by Google (assessment).

Seobility treats cornerstone content and pillar content as the same thing. Cornerstone content names the most important content of a site on a core topic, a pillar page names the central page of a topic cluster, and the same page is often both (assessment).

## Example (fictional)

A running shoe shop picks its guide "How to choose running shoes" as the cornerstone. Five articles on pronation, trail, cushioning, fit and care link to it with descriptive anchor text, and the guide links back to each.
