An **entry page** is the first page of a visit in web analytics. It can be the homepage, a product page or a blog post, depending on the search result, link or ad a visitor came from.

## How do analytics tools report it?

Matomo counts how many visits started on each page and calls that number entrances. For each entry page it also shows bounces. Google Analytics 4 uses the name "landing page" for the same idea. Its landing page report (Reports > Engagement > Landing page) lists the first page of each session, while the "Pages and screens" report covers every page viewed, including later ones.

For SEO, the entry pages that receive organic traffic are the most useful. Combined with Search Console data, they show which pages searchers see first.

## Example

Someone searches for "hreflang", opens a guide, and then visits two more pages. The guide is the entry page of that visit. The two later pages do not appear in the landing page report for that session.

## Entry page and landing page

In analytics, every first page of a visit is an entry page. In marketing, "landing page" often means a page built for a campaign (assessment). GA4 does not make that distinction and uses "landing page" for all of them.
