A **link profile**, also called backlink profile, is the full set of external links pointing to a website or its pages. It records where the links come from, which anchor text they use, which pages they target and which attributes they carry.

## What a link profile contains

- Referring domains and the number of links per domain
- Anchor texts
- Target pages on the site
- Link attributes such as `nofollow`, `sponsored` or `ugc`
- Changes over time, meaning when links appeared or disappeared

## Where the data comes from

The Links report in Search Console lists top linked pages, top linking sites and top linking text. Google states that it shows a sample of links, not every link, and the table view stops at 1,000 rows. Third-party backlink tools build their own indexes, so their numbers differ from Search Console and from each other (assessment).

## Example

One entry in a link profile reads like a table row.

| Source | Target | Anchor text | Attribute |
|---|---|---|---|
| blog.example/tips | example.com/guide | home building guide | none |
