# Recipe schema

**Recipe schema** is structured data that describes a cooking recipe, such as ingredients, times and instructions. Google can show it as a rich result in Search and as a recipe badge in Google Images.

## What does Google require?

Google requires `image` and `name`. Recommended properties include `recipeIngredient`, `recipeInstructions`, `prepTime`, `cookTime`, `totalTime`, `aggregateRating`, `nutrition.calories` and `author`. Images should be offered in several aspect ratios (16x9, 4x3, 1x1) with at least 50,000 pixels.

The content has to be an actual dish with a cooking procedure. Google names a facial scrub and party ideas as invalid recipe subjects. A recipe host carousel needs `ItemList` markup and a summary page that lists the recipes.

In schema.org, `Recipe` is a subtype of `HowTo`.
