**Reliable information systems** is an umbrella term from Google's overview of ranking systems. It covers several systems that aim to show the most reliable information possible in Google Search.

## What does Google say?

According to Google, several systems work in various ways toward this goal. They are meant to promote more authoritative pages, demote low-quality content and support high-quality journalism. Google lists the umbrella term as a current system. Some agency summaries also attribute copyright-based demotions to it, which Google lists separately as removal-based demotion systems.

## What happens when reliable information is missing?

When reliable information is scarce, for example on fast-changing topics or when the systems have low confidence in the quality of available results, Google can show a notice, called a content advisory, with tips for refining the search.

## What does it mean for SEO?

Google names no measures or criteria at this point. For sites on sensitive or time-critical topics, quality and sourcing probably weigh more (assessment).

During a breaking event, few reliable sources exist yet. Google may show a notice that results can change quickly.
