**SEO reporting** is the regular summary of search performance for a website: how visible it is in search, how much traffic and how many results that visibility produces, and what changed since the last period. A report is written for a specific reader, such as a client, a manager or the team doing the work.

## What does an SEO report contain?

Guides from tool vendors describe a similar structure. A report usually covers organic visibility and rankings, organic traffic by landing page, conversions, technical health, and a short list of findings with next steps. A comparison with the previous period gives the numbers context.

## Where do the numbers come from?

Two free Google sources cover the basics. The Search Console performance report shows clicks, impressions, click-through rate (clicks divided by impressions) and average position of the topmost result from your site. Google Analytics 4 adds what visitors do after the click: sessions, views, users and key events, which are the actions marked as particularly important for the business. Rank trackers, crawlers and backlink tools supply the rest.

## Example

A monthly report for an online shop might open with three lines:

- Organic clicks from Search Console, compared with the previous month
- Organic key events (for example completed orders) from GA4
- Top five landing pages that gained or lost clicks, with one sentence of explanation each

Below that come the technical findings and the tasks planned for the next month.

## Common mistakes

- **Too many metrics.** A report with 20 charts hides the two numbers the reader needs.
- **No explanation.** A chart without a sentence on what happened and why leaves the interpretation to the reader.
- **Mixing sources without a note.** Clicks in Search Console and sessions in GA4 are counted differently and will not match.
- **No next step.** A report that ends with the data does not help anyone decide.
