2. Hosting and delivery via Cloudflare
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, and delivered through its network. Cloudflare processes the data that is technically required to serve a page: IP address, date and time, requested URL, referrer, browser identifier (user agent) and amount of data transferred.
The purpose is the secure and reliable delivery of the website, including protection against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the secure operation of the website.
Cloudflare creates access logs in the process. As the operator, we can view analyses of these requests in our Cloudflare account. This includes individual requests with their IP address when Cloudflare records them as security events, such as a blocked attack. We use this data only to operate and secure the website and to see which search engine and AI bots request which pages. Cloudflare determines how long the logs are retained under the data processing agreement.
A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Cloudflare. Data may be transferred to the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and transfers rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR).
3. No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies and stores nothing in the browser to recognise visitors. There are no analytics tools, no advertising pixels and no embedded third-party content. The only exception is the event log on the WebMCP test pages (section 5).
4. Glossary search
The search filters the list of terms in the browser. When the search is submitted from the home page, the search term is part of the requested URL and may therefore appear in the access logs at Cloudflare (see section 2).
5. WebMCP test pages
On the pages under /de/labs/webmcp/ we test how AI agents operate websites via WebMCP. On these pages our own script reports to our server at Cloudflare what happens on the page: page view, tool called, names of the fields passed, whether a form was submitted by an agent or by hand, whether the browser is automated, time intervals, a random ID for the single page view, the browser identifier (user agent) and the time. We do not store the IP address. No cookies are set and nothing is stored in the browser.
If you submit the form “Korrektur oder Begriff vorschlagen” (suggest a correction or term), the term, type and text of your suggestion are also transmitted. Please do not enter personal data there.
The data is stored in a Cloudflare database (D1) located in the EU. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in understanding how AI agents use websites and in receiving suggestions for the glossary. We delete the entries after 12 months at the latest.
6. Contact by email
If you contact us by email, we receive your name, email address and the content of your message. This data is used only to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about a contract. The data is deleted once it is no longer needed and no retention obligations apply.
7. Search engine consoles
searchVIU uses Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to analyse visibility in search engines. These services are not embedded in the website. They provide aggregated search data, such as clicks and queries, without information about individual visitors.
8. Links to other websites
Entries link to sources on other websites. When you follow a link, that website's privacy policy applies. Based on this website's settings, your browser only sends the domain as the referrer, not the full URL.
9. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Objection to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR)
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for searchVIU is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).
