An AI product feed is a file that provides a shop’s product data in a defined format so that AI assistants can find, compare and display products with current prices. The best-documented example is OpenAI’s product feed specification for ChatGPT.

What does the feed contain?
OpenAI’s specification names nine fields for every product: item_id, title, description, url, brand, seller_name, image_url, availability and price. Price is written as an amount, a space and a three-letter ISO 4217 currency code, for example 79.99 USD. Availability takes values such as in_stock or out_of_stock. Feeds are delivered by SFTP in UTF-8. The documentation prefers Parquet and also supports compressed JSONL, CSV and TSV files. It recommends full snapshots at least daily. Variants are submitted as separate rows that share a group_id. The documentation asks merchants to update the feed when a sale starts or ends and to keep stock status current.

Common mistakes
- Product or image URLs in the feed that are not publicly reachable.
- Missing required fields, outdated or non-spec field names, and malformed values, which the documentation lists as common ingestion failures.
