Search Console API

Also known as: Google Search Console API, Webmasters API

The Search Console API is the programming interface of Google Search Console. It lets code retrieve data and manage features that are otherwise used in the browser.

What can it do?

Google lists querying search analytics, listing verified sites, managing sitemaps and URL inspection. Search analytics queries return clicks, impressions and similar metrics by dimensions such as query, page, country and device.

A response holds at most 25,000 rows, and further rows are fetched by raising startRow until a response is empty. Google states the API exposes a maximum of 50,000 rows per day per search type. For large sites that is often not enough, and Google offers the bulk data export to BigQuery, which writes data on a schedule without a stated row limit. Storage and queries above the free quota in Google Cloud are charged.

Example

JSON
POST https://www.googleapis.com/webmasters/v3/sites/https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2F/searchAnalytics/query
{
  "startDate": "2026-09-01",
  "endDate": "2026-09-30",
  "dimensions": ["query", "page"],
  "rowLimit": 25000
}

Common mistakes

  • One large request instead of daily queries, which runs into row limits and quotas.
