Article schema is structured data that describes an article page: its headline, images, dates and author. Google uses it to better understand news, blog and sports articles and to display titles, images and dates in Google Search, Google News and Google Assistant.

Which types and properties?
Google supports three types: Article, NewsArticle and BlogPosting. No property is mandatory. Google recommends headline, image, datePublished, dateModified and author, with dates in ISO 8601 format including a time zone. Images should represent the marked-up content, be crawlable and indexable, and preferably be offered in several aspect ratios (16x9, 4x3, 1x1) with at least 50,000 pixels.
Markup is not required for features like Top Stories. Google says that adding Article tells it more explicitly what the content is about.
Example
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "BlogPosting",
"headline": "How we test running shoes",
"datePublished": "2026-03-01T08:00:00+01:00",
"author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Alex Doe" }
}
</script>
