Google for Jobs is the common name for the job search experience in Google Search. For queries like “accountant jobs Chicago,” Google shows job listings in a filterable view with details such as location, employer and job type. Listings come from pages marked up with JobPosting structured data.
How do job postings get into Google for Jobs?
Google announced Google for Jobs as a company-wide initiative at Google I/O 2017 and on June 20, 2017, introduced the job search feature in Search for job seekers in the US, open to all site owners. Google’s current documentation calls it the “job search experience on Google” and lists the regions where it is available, including the United States and Germany.
A posting can appear when the job page is crawlable and contains valid JobPosting markup. Required properties are title, description, datePosted, hiringOrganization and jobLocation. Jobs posted on job boards can appear too if the board uses the markup.
For job URLs, Google recommends the Indexing API, because it prompts Googlebot to crawl the page sooner than a sitemap. Markup errors show up in the rich result status reports in Search Console.

Example
A hospital publishes each open nursing position on its own career page with JobPosting markup and sends the URL to the Indexing API. When a position is filled, the page returns 404, or validThrough is set to a past date.
Common mistakes
- Expired jobs stay online with unchanged markup. Google asks for expired postings to be removed or marked with a past
validThroughdate. - Markup on a job listing overview page. Google wants it only on the page of the individual job.
- No way to apply on the page, or details in the markup that are not visible on the page.
- HTML entities in the job title are encoded twice, so Google shows strings such as
&instead of&. This appeared in German-language job results in October 2026 (practical observation).
FAQ
Is Google for Jobs free? Google’s documentation describes inclusion through structured data and regular crawling and mentions no fee.
Can I post a job directly on Google?
Google’s docs offer no form for that. The job has to be published on your own career site or a job board that uses JobPosting markup.
