What does Google require?
Three properties are required: name, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate in ISO 8601 format. Recommended are contentUrl or embedUrl, description, duration, and interaction data. The page must be a publicly accessible watch page where the video can actually be viewed. Google recommends giving each video a unique name and description.
For key moments, Google supports Clip markup with explicit timestamps and SeekToAction, which lets Google find segments from a URL pattern. Livestreams can carry a LIVE badge through BroadcastEvent with isLiveBroadcast set to true.
Example
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "VideoObject",
"name": "How to lace trail shoes",
"thumbnailUrl": "https://example.com/thumb.jpg",
"uploadDate": "2026-02-10T08:00:00+00:00",
"contentUrl": "https://example.com/video.mp4"
}
</script>
