An FAQ page (FAQ stands for “frequently asked questions”) collects questions customers often ask about a product, service or topic and answers them directly on the page. For SEO it counts as a regular content page. Google no longer shows the expandable FAQ rich result in Search, which ended on May 7, 2026.
What is an FAQ page good for?
Visitors find answers to standard questions about shipping, payment, cancellation or features without contacting support. The headings often match how people phrase searches, which can help rankings for long-tail queries (opinion). Good questions come from real sources: support tickets, chat logs, sales calls and the site’s internal search.
FAQ markup and rich results
The schema.org type FAQPage marks up a page that presents one or more frequently asked questions. Google used it to show expandable answers under a result. According to Google’s documentation changelog, the feature stopped appearing in Google Search from May 7, 2026, and the documentation was removed on June 15, 2026. Adding the markup no longer changes how a result looks in Google.
Example
A shipping FAQ in plain HTML:
<h1>Shipping FAQ</h1>
<h2>How long does delivery take?</h2>
<p>Within Germany, 2 to 3 business days.</p>
<h2>Can I track my parcel?</h2>
<p>Yes, the tracking number is in your shipping confirmation.</p>
Common mistakes
- Questions nobody asks, added only to include keywords.
- Answers that only link to another page without answering the question.
- Outdated answers on prices, deadlines or delivery times.
- The same FAQ block repeated on many pages, leaving little unique content (opinion).
