Free product listings let merchants show products on Google without paying for ads. The product data comes from Google Merchant Center. Not to be confused with Google Business Profile listings, which describe a business location.
How do free product listings work?
According to Google, free listings can appear in Google Search, Google Maps, Gemini, YouTube, the Shopping tab, Google Images and Lens. For new Merchant Center accounts they are turned on by default. Existing accounts can check the status on the Free listings page, which requires admin access.
Merchants need to provide product data such as ID, title, link, image, price, description and availability (condition for used or refurbished items, brand and GTIN where they apply), and follow Google’s policies for free listings. In some countries they must also set up shipping information.
The status on the Free listings page gives Google permission to show products for free. Google states that it does not guarantee that products appear, because it matches the supplied data against what people search for.
Example
In an illustrative example, a shop uploads a product feed with 500 products. The Free listings status shows as active, so Google may show any of those products in the Shopping tab when a query matches the feed data.
